PropTwisters Club MeetingNovember 7, 2002
President Delbert Danly called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm with 22 members in attendance. TREASURER’S REPORT Del Watts prepared a financial report on the club’s income and expenses for the month of October. Winston Okerlund read the statement to the attending members. Expenses included monies spent for hats, signs and mailing of the newsletter. Income included sales of hats and signs, with monies from renewals. 2003 MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS Renewals are in full swing for 2003. We had 8 members renew with one new member joining. Remember that if you renew by Dec. 31, 2002 you will receive two raffle tickets for the Mall Show Raffle, which is the F4U Corsair. When you renew, please fill out an application and turn it in with your 2003 dues. This will help keep our records up to date. Fill out ALL lines that pertain to you. MALL SHOW 2003 Dates for the upcoming Mall Show are February 15th and 16th. Are you working on a new plane to be ready for display? Cleaning up an old favorite? Or a new used plane? Just remember that when these planes are on display, it draws interest to many people about the RC sport and hobby. Especially, those that had once been in the sport and are thinking (in the back of their minds), “You know, I sure had fun when I was flying those planes, and I sure like the looks of that one. Just maybe….”. FREQUENCY SCANNER The benefits of a club purchased frequency scanner was brought up. Winston Okerlund and Roy Lightle have been looking into scanners and what one could do if we had one at the field. Several units are being considered, and next month we will present a proposal to the membership for their opinion. Information has been added to the website under “Club News”. It is a long Q and A article, and is quite informative. HATS ARE IN!! We have the new hats with the patches for sale. We ordered 24 hats, 12 khaki and 12 navy blue. They are going fast, so if you want one, call Delbert or be out to the field. Hats with patch are $10. We recently have been in contact with the original vendor for the shirts and jackets. They will be sending us a current catalog so that we can see what is available. There will be no additional setup fee, if we order clothing with the original logo. More details will be presented at the next club meeting in December. BATTERY CHECK We continue to have airplanes going into the ground due to battery failure. If you are flying a good part of the day, CHECK YOUR BATTERIES WITH AN EXPANDED VOLT METER. These are available through any mail order company for about $15 or less. The ESV will put a load on the batteries to see if it will hold a charge, so you KNOW if it needs to be charged. The small equipment investment is nothing, compared to the cost of replacing or repairing a plane, radio and motor. FUN FLY TROPHY PRESENTED This year’s Fun Fly Top Pilot was Mike Myers. He did all that fancy flying with his plastic profile plane. The trophy, which was built by Winston Okerlund, was an 18” wooden propeller with an engraved plaque supported by small chains. Paul Eagon did the engraving. President Delbert Danly on the right presented the award to Mike. Smile Delbert!! VIDEOTAPE SHOWN We played the videotape of the TV program that was shown on Blue Mt. TV on Monday, November 4th. Delbert Danly and Loren Jennings had the opportunity to represent the PropTwisters on a community action program for about 20 minutes. They were able to discuss what the club does, show a couple of planes, show a short video clip of the field, and talk about the enjoyment of the sport. Unfortunately, we were unable to show videos of any planes in flight. We may have the opportunity to have another time on the TV for a second program sometime in January. If you would like to view the tape contact Loren Jennings. FIELD MAINTENANCE COMMITTEE We will have a committee organized to schedule regular field maintenance for 2003. This will include fertilizing, seeding, mowing, sprinkler checks, and so on. We are looking for club members who would like to help plan the yearly schedule and implement the plan. As well as, those who would like to help mow the field or put in some time. The field takes a lot of work to maintain, and we all enjoy a nice green clipped lawn to fly from. If you are interested in some level of involvement contact Loren Jennings. HOBBY WORLD OPENS Mike Bretta, owner of the new Hobby World, was introduced and shared with us his plans for his shop. The new store is located on Isaacs, next to the Super Wash Car Wash, and not in the old Dan Readers building, which burned down years ago. Mike will be stocking Midwest and Lone Star balsa, Du-Bro, Sullivan Monokote and a host of other product lines of our addiction. Stop in and see Mike. His phone number is 525-2772. Hours are M-F 11-7 and Sat/Sun 1-6.
Suggestions and IdeasThe officers are always open to listen to suggestions and ideas for making 2003 a fun year for the club. If you have something that you feel would be of value to the club for an activity or an improvement to the organization please voice your idea to any officer. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm. The rest of the time was devoted to swapping and selling. Next meeting December 5th.
